The Vision
Wrestler approached us with a unique and interesting project for the New Zealand Police, with the purpose of sharing new insight into the myriad roles and opportunities within Nga Pirihimana O Aotearoa I NZ Police.
The brief was to establish the full sonic palette and compose all the musical elements to accompany and complement the powerful and often difficult stories from the diverse range of Police officers within the podcast.
The challenge for us was to fully understand the kaupapa of the project and ensure that the tone reflected the values of the New Zealand Police and created an atmosphere that would support and complement these important human stories. It was crucial to have meaningful korero to focus in on this tone, keeping things feeling positive and energised while ensuring a respectful and down to earth tone.
The Music.
Sound Design Approach
We worked closely with the Wrestler team to create the Offbeat theme music, ambient sound beds and interstitial music pieces to create natural transitions between topics, create rests and keep an engaging pace for the listener.
It was a lot of fun exploring the tone and creating these sonic elements; testing them with the interview recording snippets to ensure they complemented the dialogue and subject matter. We relished the challenge of capturing the seriousness and gritty nature of the subject matter while keeping a lightness and pragmatic optimism around the work and potential to make a real difference in peoples’ lives and the community.
We’re passionate about the power of music and sound and its ability to enhance the potency of storytelling, gently setting the scene and creating an emotive foundation for the content to shine.
